Cost Assistance for AEM

In response to the changes made by the Iowa Department of Education regarding the procurement of accessible educational materials for students, the Iowa Library for the Blind and Print Disabled (Library) and its Instructional Materials Center (IMC) wanted to share information about the resources the Library and the IMC have available to school districts, educators and students.

The IMC will continue, as it has for over 30 years, to serve Iowa’s schools and students in providing accessible materials in alternative formats.

As an Authorized Media Producer (AMP) in Iowa for braille, large print, audio and electronic text formats, the Library and IMC have resources to provide timely, quality, and cost-effective materials to schools for their students.  The IMC staff are available to assist in the ordering, loaning and procurement processes to help assist school districts in finding the most cost-effective ways to meet student needs.

Through the Library and IMC, we have well established ordering and procurement processes and provide a one-stop resource for accessible educational materials.  The Library provides the added bonus of a large library collection with materials ready for use at no cost.

Due to the uniqueness of the timing of the changes in procuring accessible educational materials, the IMC is available to assist in the cost of LEAs (School Districts) procuring materials for the 2022-2023 school year.

  • For non-consumable items (textbooks and workbooks) which will be added to the Library collection, IDB (fiscal agent for IMC) will pay 70% of the total cost of each project and the School District will be responsible for 30% of the total cost of each project.  These items will be returned to the IMC to be added to the Library’s collection.
  • For consumable items (worksheets, teacher-created worksheets, and online curriculum) which will not be added to the Library collection, IDB (fiscal agent for IMC) will pay 50% of the total cost of each project and the School District will be responsible for 50% of the total cost of each project.  These items do not need to be returned to the IMC.
